I found a van to buy - a Renault Kangoo 1149cc petrol engine with just 13k on the clock, priced at £4,100 with a known service history. Coincidentally, the owner was a farmer from north Herefordshire and I'd bought his previous Fiat Panda from him 10 years earlier via a different dealer.
First camping trip with an airbed on the floor. Washing facilities were a plastic bowl and jerrican. Being naturally clumsy, each time I used it, I managed to tip the bowl over so spent much of my trips mopping the floor....
Heading outside with my steel rule, chalk and measurements, I worked out several possible options which would allow the van to be fitted out for camping use while also being able to transport 6 full-size hay bales...
Work start by painting the existing ply wall linings, adding a new plywood floor and then building some units....
Cutting a hole for the rudimentary sink - ie a 99p plastic washing up bowl slotted into place and emptied via the rear door into the nearest grid...
Sink in place with 25l jerrican and Whale manual pump tap.
Having lugged 25kg of water across a field, I quickly learned to carry a couple of 2l water bottles and refill it using these instead!
Both sets of cupboard units are now in place.
The units are now painted.
Units set up forming a basic 'bed'. The top unit lifts off the bottom and a plywood sheet stretches across the two forming the bed base.
